Pit Cleaning
flemingCo has several years of
experience in production pit cleaning.
We can therefore offer to
- Assess old and severely contaminated oil production pits
- Recommend the necessary set of cleaning techniques and not
least the necessary equipment
- Coordinate and supervise the clean-up
- Train response crews in the clean-up of oil production pits
A so-called production pit is a leftover from oil
exploration and oil production on land. Typically the oil companies in
earlier years left drilling mud and crude oil - discharged in connection
with drilling and testing of the new well - in ponds or pits next to the
drilling hole.
Over the years the lighter fractions of the oil have evaporated
and in many cases additional contamination has taken place due to the
dumping of chemicals, refinery waste, and debris. Consequently these
production pits may contain extremely viscous and debris-laden asphalt-like
oil, which is very difficult to recover.
The soil in the bottoms and sides, as well as the surrounding land
may suffer from serious oil pollution. Contaminated water from the pits may
in connection with rain overflow into rivers and lakes
NOTE: We do not supply
equipment, nor do we do the actual cleaning. Our philosophy is to support in
situ work, and therefore very price competitive cleaning, mainly based on
local labor and equipment. We match well with a company who wants into this
business but hasn't got the know how yet
Experience
From 1995 to 1997 Flemming Hvidbak served as international project
manager, responsible for DESMI’s activities within the field of on-shore
remediation of oil polluted land, especially pit-cleaning. In cooperation
with an Ecuadorian company, joint-venture companies were formed in Panama,
Ecuador, and Venezuela. Flemming Hvidbak served as director in each of these
companies. In 1996 and '97 the Ecuadorian JV successfully remediated about
100 old oil production pits for Texaco in the Ecuadorian part of the Amazon
Rain Forest.
